Stuff by Kate work is cute, bold and sweet! I would not be surprised if she were the next Betsy Johnson!
Here’s some great info about Kate from her profile page:
“Kate’s love for fashion and design began at a young age, helping her mother with design and construction of annual Halloween and dance costumes. She found delight in sewing classes in middle and high school in her hometown of Rochester, New Hampshire, and knew that a career in fashion design was her calling card.
Kate first studied fashion design at Lasell College in Newton, Mass., and continued her education at the University of Rhode Island, where she concentrated in textiles, merchandising and fashion design. A 2005 graduate of URI, Kate has had her designs featured in several fashion shows in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and California over the past eight years. She received honors at the 2005 Spring Splash Fashion Show her senior year in Rhode Island, and has been since hosting her own fashion shows in San Franciso, San Jose, and Los Angeles.
While each garment Kate creates is the product of a vision and inspiration, her business took off almost accidentally. A sorority sister of hers at URI fell in love with a bag Kate had designed and made for a class project and “just had to have it.” It was Kate’s first sale, and “Holly” — the bag in a soft, slouchy shell with bold satin lining — was born. Business flourished, with one sale quickly turning into 30 by semester’s end.
The company name, “Stuff by Kate” stems from a childhood dream of Kate’s to create all of her own room accessories and clothing. As a child, she constructed a “catalogue” of random products on drawing paper, and insisted that one day, she would make them all.
Today, Kate continues to build upon that first sale, knowing that her business depends on the attention she lends to each product and the word-of-mouth referrals she receives from her customers. Kate currently lives and works in the San Jose area of sunny California.
Each garment, bag, and accessory has been uniquely designed and handcrafted with passion, precision, and the personal touch of none other than Kate herself. After all, it’s her stuff. She just wants you to have it.”
